My first day in New Zealand. Well half day really. We arrived at the airport at 1.40pm and actually, I wasn't feeling half as bad as I anticipated I would, considering we hadn't slept for nearly 40 hours. Maybe it was the excitement and the adrenaline that kept us chatting away animatedly throughout the 30 minute bus transit between the airport and hostel.
Finally made it on the bus, 26 hours after leaving Heathrow |
I liked the hostel very much. It was clean and simple, and uniform. We showered quickly and then went out, with the intention of walking down the hill to find the sea. Unfortunately, our long day was catching up with us and hanger (hunger + anger- not a nice combination!) began to set in. We no longer cared about pretty views- all we wanted was to find some food! It took us a while so find a suitable restaurant as we were not used to the New Zealand pricing, and didn't know what was deemed expensive or not, but finally we settled for a nice looking grill. Looking back, $20 for a salad was absolutely extortionate but hey-ho, we were blissfully ignorant at the time.
An early night was in store tonight....
